Digilux 3

Recommended Posts

I recently ordered a Digilux 3 at a Leica Days sale with a $150 discount ($2349). Comboed with the $699 owner loyalty certificate it will cost just $1650. The Digilux 3 has a much better 3 year warranty with 6 month passport vs. 1yr parts/90day labor on the L1. Factor in the improved JPEG processing (that I prefer for ease use) and the red dot, the Digilux 3 is the better value in my book.

I'm glad to hear that version 2 firmware provides a focus confirmation light for adapted lenses. I expect my 100 APO and 80-200 are going to get some extra use.

Hi

Doug, you have done very well, I can see why you have bought the Leica, however here in old rip-off land (UK) the standard price to the normal consumer of the Digilux is an eye watering 1799 GBP (approx 3600 USD) whilst the Pano L1 is now down to 899 GBP (1800 USD)...so even with the Leica add-ons, there is no contest at all..and are you not glad you live in the 'land of the free?'

cheers Steve.

Outstanding photos Godfrey! Morning Light is really nice with its warm and cool horizontally banded colors.

Gosh Steven, those UK prices are staggering! I would opt for the L1 in those circumstances also, or come visit the "Land of the Free" ;-) B&H has them back in stock as of today (Monday).

I'm hoping my order comes in soon but the salesperson said expect one month, the backlog is large on the Digilux 3.

I'm not embarassed to purchase the Leica version with the price difference. Why should I

or any other Leica Digilux 3 owner be? Who cares the reason they bought it for. If it's

either for the red dot logo and that they simply have more spending power. It's their

money. Why should they be put down by other people for having more money and want to

spend more?

In any case here's the breakdown of each:

Panasonic warranty - Camera is warranted to 1 year parts and 90 days labor; EXCEPT for

the following: CCD is 6 months parts/90 days labor, Battery is 90 days parts and SD card

is 90 days parts.

Leica warranty - Everything is covered for 3 years; Risk warranty for the first 6 months on

the body and lens including accidental damage.

Anyway I like shooting RAW. For casual events where I just want to bring the camera along

I do appreciate the Leica JPG processing quality.

Thanks for the compliment, Doug!

Have to say, I agree with you Raymond. I didn't feel the additional warranty and the in-

camera JPEG processing was worth the premium for my uses and bank account, but if you do

and can afford it, why not? (BTW, I did some testing of the Panasonic's in-camera JPEG today.

For the casual purposes I'd put that capture mode to, it's really not bad, just not as good.)

Godfrey
