Please help! My Nikon D1x bugged in time of work - it just stopped recognizing

any compact flash, same as stopped entering any menu! The funny thing is, that

it's all right with all other functions and buttons! I've tryed everything -

all types of two buttons reset, accumulator detach reset, any hard format of

any size cf in card reader, using any cluster size till 64 kb... No use... The

body does not want to format cf inside eather. But it definetly knows when the

card is inserted, because other way it shows -E-, and when I insert any card it

shows blinking black CARD indicator, [ 1] and REM 0. Almost like if the card

was full! Several times after different combinations of pressing two green

buttons for reset I was getting [format] on lcd, which should mean that the

card is not formatted, but it wasn't changing anything even if I tried to

format it. Stupid situation... I'm getting mad! Whatever I do I can't help it,

and there is no service center of Nikon in my country. I've asked one of my

friends (super hard specialist), he opened my D1x body and tested everything!

Nothing was wrong! Everything, including the cf slot and pins, contact groups

and any other hard is just ideal and intouched! He said it can be only soft

(firmware) problem! And I still can't get why Nikon company does not provide

upgradable firmware for professional bodies, like Canon does! What should I do

now - give the D1x to kids as a toy, or throw it away as garbage? Please help

if you know anything about solving similar problems, because anything I've read

at this forum is not like my case... My problem is real and I'm starting to

hate Nikons for neglecting my help requests, just like if they knew about such

possible bugs and were building a wall among service center and customer every

time it happens! Thank You in advance.

on the other hand, your complaint about nikon is funny...your problem does not seem to have much to do with the firmware upgrade. you can find a instruction manual on nikon site. have you try to look? or call nikon at 800 number?
