mendel_leisk
I'm on the edge of purchasing the Hewlett-Packard B9180, and wondering what would be a good start-out paper package to get with it. I'm a complete duffer at printing. I would think any 13x19 I do will be framed under glass. The 8 1/2 X 11 may be framed with or without glass. And 4X6 snaps unframed for the most. I'll be printing a mix of black and white and color, maybe 50/50. Reading recent posts here, it seems matt finish is better under glass. Any thoughts on this? I see there is "Advanced Inkjet Photo Paper" from HP. Is this the optimum for this printer? Does it come in matt? There doesn't seem to be any matt choices in this paper at B&H right now, and I'm getting a little lost on the HP site. With the 4x6 there's one type noted as "borderless". What does this signify, compared to non-borderless? Anyway, pretty bewildered. Any suggestions for a start-out package, how important it is to stay with HP papers, the signif. of their Advanced Inkjet Photo Paper (vs other), and matt-vs-satin-vs-gloss greatly appreciated. tom_swanson
Try asking here... http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/hp9100Series/ For satin paper I like the inkjet art luster. Great stuff. Pretty cheap.
mendel_leisk
Thanks, Tom. I found HP's Photo Matt is available locally, up to 13" x 19", as well as a good variety of HP and other, glossy and otherwise, so I can dabble and don't need to make commitments via mail order. Are you using this printer, and if so how are you liking it. tom_swanson
I love the printer. It is (mostly) painless. Every now and again it refuses to respond and has to be power cycled but all in all it is great. Just prints. No clogs. No odd colors. Very pleased. B+W is so good on this thing that I've started to learn B+W photography. (Hard thing to want to do when your photos print green or yellow because your printer can't quite do B+W. Works great with this one.)
