hector_evans
Sometimes, when I use my Canon Digital Rebel XTi with a 28-135 USM IS lens, the shutter release button freezes up, and I have to turn power off/on to temporarily fix the problem. Has anyone had this problem, or am I doing something wrong? thanks
colinsouthern
Hi Hector, Can you be a bit more specific? Do you mean that you push the button down and it jams down?, or so you mean you press the button down and the camera locks up? If the latter, do you mean it locks up when you take the shot, or when you meter (ie press it 1/2 way down). When it's "doing what it's doing" is there anything on the LCD panel? Cheers, Colin
hector_evans
Hi Colin, I mean that I press the button and nothing happens: no shutter release, no autofocus. I am not sure what triggers it. However, the LCD panel looks normal and light metering keeps working. thanks
mark u
This sounds similar to the sort of response to a failing IS unit that older production 70-200 f/2.8 IS lenses produces: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00KlGN Presumably only the 28-135 is affected? colinsouthern
Do you have any other lenses that you can try? Also - long shot - but it might be worth setting the "Shoot without CF Card" CF - remove the card - and try shooting. Another thing to try - remove the lens and try the sensor cleaning routine (where it retracts the mirror and opens the shutter) - try it several times - you should be able to isolate it down to either body or lens, and possibly to the release itself? Let us know ... Cheers, Colin
