rsabina
Has anyone had any experience with this monopod/ tripod from Quantaray. I am thinking about getting it with a ball instead of the magmount. Does it hold 9lbs really ? Hmmmmm ? Thanks
Ed_Ingold
Take a pass until you can afford a real tripod - Manfrotto or Gitzo. If you don't mind an 8 pound tripod, the Slik 700DX is a good buy, but with a 3-way head. Ball heads you can trust start at about $180 for the head alone. Nine pounds is a very low weight rating, and probably exaggerated at that. Putting it simply, a tripod has to be very stiff to keep the camera steady, which usually results in an higher weigh rating and heavier tripod. Quantaray typically provides poor quality at low prices. Cheap ball heads fail because they don't operate smoothly, making them frustrating to position. Secondly, the holding power is low, forcing you to over-tighten the head when the camera is pointed up or down.
