Canon to address 1D Mark III autofocus in August

Chuck's Tech Tips column confines itself to advice on how to make the best of settings and other issues of technique. Don't expect any comment there about the "focussing issue" beyond advice to load the latest firmware that may have been released. The "issue" will be addressed by either a firmware update, or a product recall. I think there is probably enough of a genuine issue to mean that the third alternative - saying and doing nothing - will not be adopted, although don't expect any announcement until Canon have worked out solutions and tested them, and if they involve hardware, made a stock of the necessary parts.

P.S. Tech Tips is well worth reading regardless - there is a lot of useful advice offered in them. The July column covers using the grid screen in a 5D and CF 00 setting; start-up of IS; E-TTL flash with the 10D; using the ST-E2 as a wireless master (including for manual flash power settings); 1D MK III centre point in AI Servo; failure of 420EX to flash at low output.

This post headline is misleading. What the articles says is "Chuck Westfall, Canon's spokesman and all-knowing camera tech expert, has promised to address questions about how well his employer's new high-end EOS-1D Mark III digital SLR handles autofocus--but you'll have to wait until next month." - Note the words "promised to adress questions" - That's an entirely different meaning than 'Canon to address 1DMKIII AF'.

There's enough BS headlines in mainstream media, let's NOT adopt the same standards here, please.

More specifically" promising to answer question does NOT imply that there is an issue.

Addressing an issue, on the contrary, clearly implies that an issue has been found, proven and officially recognized. Which isn't the case, as worded in the article linked in the post.
