sam_ellis
The main focus of my business is weddings, but I have been doing more family portraits lately. I'm finding that there is more editing that goes into the family portraits and wondering if people charge more per print based on this. I don't want to raise my shooting fee, because it would be higher than most others in the area. However, most others have HIGH print prices, but they don't do weddings. It seems to me that wedding photographers charge less per print because there is a higher volume and somewhat less editing than portrait photographers who edit photos a lot more but sell fewer prints. Basically, for those who do both weddings and portraits, do you charge more for the portrait prints due to the additional editing involved? Thank you, Sam
annealmasy
Yes. The point of a portrait session is to come away with one or two incredible works of art that the family (or individual) can treasure for years to come. A lot of retouching and toning would go into whichever image your clients picks to hang on their wall.
doug_axford1
Yes, more for portraits. But, it depends more on the quantity of prints sold on a typical wedding order vs. portrait. Some photographers will do as much post work on their wedding images as you would on a portrait - it's up to you. Supply & demand Doug
rannbphoto
My "a la carte" print prices are way high because I want them to order a package. Package prices are still higher than wedding pricing because of the all the retouching you mentioned, but it's not a HUGE difference.
