patertech
I just got a used PN-11 and every picture I take it's sooooo much underexposed that it's black. I have entered non cpu lens data in shooting menu as 105 and 2.8, set mode to M. 400 ISO 1/200th. Am I missing something that I need to set in addition to non cpu lens data. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
michael_bradtke
Have you tried it with a different lens? Have you used the DOF preview to see if the camera can talk to the lens in any way?
patertech
I have tried 70-200 and 18-200 with same results. DOF preview is working. In order to even see a histogram I have to crank up ISO to 800 and 1/20th and this is outside. With a proper exposure everything is black.
joseph_smith3
I have used a pn-11 tube on my d 200 without any problems. I never bothered to enter in the non cpu lens data because I did not need to know what lens I had on the camera. However, the fact that you entered it should not make a difference. What do those other settings mean? Mode at M for manual? ISO at 400? So far no problems. 1/200 is your shutter speed? I bet your problem is that you forgot to change your lens aperture with the sub command knob on the camera and left it at its smallest opening thus getting the black images. Once you add the Nikon ext tube,(non electronic) things will not work automatically anymore. And once you select M mode things will not work automatically either. Just as you selected your shutter speed, you have to select the correct aperture. And the one you probably selected is the one last set on the lens, probably f22 or f 32, the smallest available on the lens. Joe Smith
alan_olander1664878205
Since the 105 VR Micro is a "G" lens it will not work with non-cpu extension tubes except at the smallest aperture. You're trying to take photographs at f/32, which isn't going to work even in daylight, most likely. You'll need to buy Kenko tubes or get a earlier version, manual focus or AF, of the 105 Micro. joseph_smith3
Read your D 200 camera manual under the section called M manual exposure mode to learn how to make sure you have achieved proper exposure. See page 68. Joe Smith
alan_olander1664878205
Your other two lenses are "G" lenses, also, so they will do the same thing. You need a lens with an aperture ring that you can adjust manually.
joseph_smith3
I agree with Alan's post. I forgot that the VR lens was a G lens. My comments apply to non G lenses, like AF and and AF-S. Joe Smith
patertech
Thanks a lot for your responses, it makes sense because when I pressed DOF preview, it looked like its at the smallest aperture and since I can not control aperture from my camera it's not going to work for me. Thanks again.

arnabdas
PN-11 will work with G lenses if you do this http://damien.douxchamps.net/photo/pn11/index.php
manel_soria
Arnab,Why don't just use the Kenko tube ? It works fine for me, with VR, AF and perfect metering.
