mihail.ursu
I have the chance of buying a used Nikon 80-200 AF-S from a AP photographer...and he offered me 2 lenses to choose from, and I have no idea how to make that choice...they both look almost identical...one being 2000 samples newer... PLEASE help :)with any test suggestions:)

ShunCheung
Generally speaking, news and sports photographers don't treat their equipment very well. Besides the optics, I would make sure that the lens is still fine mechanically. In case it has been dropped, the zoom and focus mechanisms might not be smooth any more. bsd230
I agree with Shun, they don't treat their equipment like you and I probably do so get them checked out thoroughly. I can't image that there would be much difference between the 2 just by the sample difference, it comes down to which one has been used and abused more. If they were equal I would probably opt for the newer of the 2. Just my 2 cents.
hflphotos
I just bought one used that was claimed to be in excellent shape and found the auto/manual locking ring to be broken. That makes it very easy to knock out of autofocus when adjusting zoom range. Fortunately, Nikon will fix it and says it is not a major problem, but it is an example of how a heavily used lens can provide issues.
