Canon XTi and Alien Bee?

Recommended Posts

There is nothing special about the combo that makes it any different from any camera.

You will use the PC-sync cord connection on the side. Canon cameras usually have a max sync voltage rating for each camera. If the alien bee is higher than that or if you are concerned about the well being of your camera- you can use an adaptor to dial-down the sync voltage. Soem of these adapters go into the camera hot shoe and are connected to the camera. This is why you might have read reports of the hot-shoe connection.

Hope that helps.

okay... chris.. the canon xti doesnt have a pc sync port to plug the Bee into. You would need a hotshoe adaptor or you can simply just buy (for $30) the ebay wireless flash kit (ebay seller gadgetinfinity) and trigger the strobe remotely! Much easier than buying a sync port then using the plug! Second option would be set the camera to manual exposure. Dial the flash power down so it wont effect the exposure but will be just bright enough to trigger the Alienbee strobe.

You actually do not need a sync cord if you have an external flash that will trigger off the ABs. However, you should do what I have done, which is get the AB radio transmitter/receiver, which will free up your hands and give you fool proof trigger of your ABs

Best wishes
