echang24
I was wondering if anyone on this thread has seen this problem. I have a Leica M6 TTL and recently purchased a Voigtlander 12mm Heliar lens. I took a test roll today to check out my new lens. With the lens hood attached, I see dark edges on the negatives. The lens appears to be so wide that it catches the lens hood! (http://www.photo.net/photo/6073656) Without the lens hood, everything looks normal. (http://www.photo.net/photo/6073664). I like the lens hoods especially since the lens cap attaches to it and not the lens itself (http://www.photo.net/photo/6073666). Has anyone ever seen this before? Any workarounds? Thanks in advance, Eric
ronald_moravec1
There is something wrong with the lens. It is "looking" to the left and seeing the shade. If you photograph an evenly lit surface, there should be uniform vignetting in all four corners. Yours is all on one side. The shade makes no effect on my lens except for some minimal side light protection.
echang24
Ronald - Can you look at this one? I am seeing the same issue on both sides. I think the original photo I reference is already dark on the right hand side of the image. http://www.photo.net/photo/6073694 Thanks for your quick response, Eric
dougmiles
I observe vignetting on both sides... As if the hood is rotated 90 degrees. If that is physically possible, as I've not used this lens, but it does appear to be a clamp-on hood.
ronald_moravec1
Vignetting occurres only in corners, not along the whole side. Do you have the narrow portion of the shade on top and bottom and wide on the ends? The long protrusions belong on the top and bottom and clamp screw on the side. The shade should not be in the pic if oriented properly. If it is, the lens is defective.
echang24
Thank you Ronald and Doug. I have the lens hood on wrong. I feel like an idiot. Eric
dougmiles
Well, no sweat, huh; easy to fix and your new gear is ok! :-) Good shooting...
Alex_Es
I hate that hood. Useing a VC filter holder. Adds size but okay.
jeffrey_goggin3
FWIW, in a related vein, I've just discovered that neither the lens hood, the filter adapter, nor the lens case for the Leica version of this lens fit the (now discontinued) F-mount version...
