jack_grieve
Hello all, I just came across a vintage linhof Technika. I am not familiar with these cameras and I am unsure what model I have got. I cannot find the serial number on this camera? Also the back is an older type. I am wondering if anyone can tell me more about this camera and also if it is possible to change the back for a standard universal back? In the images the back is positioned upside down (this is because the little door catch is not working and I have rotated the back so that it doesn't swing open). Also the focusing glass on the camera was broken- I am going to have to find a replacement- or make one. I have a Phase one digital back (Hassy V mount)and was hoping I may be able to use it on this camera but I don't think that will be possible with this back? Any help will be much appreciated. Here are the images:
sattler123
I'd say you have a 4x5 Linhof Technika III, Version 4 with a reducing back - I would guess 2x3. If you want to use this camera for 4x5 sheet film, you will have to find another back.
thomas_vaehrmann
Hi Jack, you have an old Technika which hasn't the back for international cassetts but for special Linhof-metal ones. You can chage the whole back if you rotate it about 45 deg. and pull the metal stripes which hold the back out. Problem is to find the right international back. Otherwise it's a fine camera and worth fixing it. Have a look at http://cameraquest.com/tech3pic.htm kind regards Thomas
jack_grieve
Hello there Thomas and Juergen, thanks for the help and info. I thought it was odd that the focsing screen only measured 2x3. I would really like to get an international back for this camera. What would you suggest as the chepest yet workeable alternative back? any info about this camera would be welcome, eGards, Jack
ole_tjugen
That looks to me like a III with linhof plate back. The best alternative would be a Linhof International back - I believe both III and IV backs will fit straight on. They may not be the cheapest available, but they fit perfectly. I have a spare 9x12cm plate back, which is an exact fit on a IV camera.

douglas_antonio
hi jack, the linhof international backs come up at *bay quite often. make sure it is one for at least the technika IV. that should fit your camera. linhof is also producing adapter plates for digital backs. try getting in touch with them at www. linhof.de. and see what they have got to say. they have recently introduced the master technika 3000 with rapid change slide and digital adapters for all kinds of db's. and they seem to be offering a kit to adapt to older international linhof backs. the serial # should be embossed on the accessory shoe on top of your camera. best of luck douglas
douglas_antonio
oops, just saw the last picture which took some time to upload. there is no serial ' embossed. maybe there is one underneath the shoe? and: have a look at the backs of later technikas such as IV, V, master. there yyou will be able to maake out the right backs.
