juanjo_viagran
Hi.. I'd like to get some inputs about what lens should I get between those two. Just bough a Tokina 12-24mm ATX and 28-80mm ATX pro 2.8 and now I'm looking for a tele zoom. with my budget: $500 I figure that I can't go with NIKON so here are my two picks. Tokina 80-200mm ATX Pro 2.8 or Tokina 100-300mm ATX 340 AFll f:4 , I'd like to hear from people with experience with this lenses. is going to be use on a D2H for sports amd wile life. tatephotography
Normally I would recommend the Sigma 70-200 f2.8. When I was making the same decision you are now, I decided on the Sigma, as the quality was regarded as being higher, and the AF speed was substantially higher. But it may be that you need a longer lens for wildlife and or sports. I guess it really comes down to what type of sports and wildlife.
tri-x1
I have the 80-200 2.8 Tokina manual focus zoom. My only complaint is the weight but you get that with any 2.8 zoom. It has good contrast and sharpness, although I have to admit I haven't shot much with it wide open.
bruce_margolis
Hi Juanjo. Unless you are certain you need the 300mm, I would go with the 80-200 and pick up one of the Kenko Pro 1.4 or 2.0 teleconverters. That would give you overall a faster lens with some flexibility for the longer range. Another option is get the 80-200 now and save up for the 80-400 ATX but it is a much slower lens. I think you're gonna love the 80-200.
steve_laufer
Wel, I just got the Tamron 18-250mm for my D200 Pros will most likely froun at the sound of this lense. mark newcombe www.mcnphoto
Also consider the 100-300 f4 sigma it's pretty good value and nice af and optics.
juanjo_viagran
Thanks a lot for the inputs.. I'm pretty happy with my set up of TOKINA lenses(12-24mm & 28-80mm) and I'd like to get an input about this two TOKINA lenses. 80-200mm or 100-300mmm. I like the 2.8 of the 20/200 and the size/weight, but the extra 100mm of the 100-300 is tempting as well...!!!
fullmetalphotograper
I own the 80-200 Tokina. It is built like a tank and weighs like one. It is slow like an old tank. I do not recommend this lens for D70 because it is going to be a strain on the cameras servos. I would suggest these options. http://www.keh.com SIGMA APO D EX HSM 70-200 F2.8 (77)(N90S & LATER) WITH HOOD, CAPS, C, 35MM SLR AUTO FOCUS ZOOM TELEPHOTO LENS $599.00 http://www.keh.com Nikon Auto Focus 80-200 F2.8 D MACRO ED (77) WITH HOOD, CAPS, 35MM SLR AUTO FOCUS ZOOM TELEPHOTO LENS $546.00 http://www.bhphotovideo.com Nikon Zoom Telephoto Zoom-Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 ED AF-D Autofocus Lens with Tripod Collar Price : $ 649.
kayak203
On Pbase, the 80-200 seems sharper than the 100-300, but there are many variables that might account for the apparent difference.
http://www.pbase.com/cameras/tokina

juanjo_viagran
Thanks again for the inputs.. I made up my mind...I'm going to go with the 80-200mm ATX pro 2.8 and as Bruce mention, I may buy a Kenko Pro 1.4 for when I need more reach. cheers Juanjo
