So I'm looking to play around with IR work and am wondering if anyone has used

the said filter or what IR Filters work best.

A somewhat cheaper way to experiment is to make use of the Cokin filter system, which

consists of a filter holder into which you slide in filters - I also have a gel filter holder into

which I have inserted a Wratten 87 gel. The advantage of a filter holder like this is that it

is quicker to raise and lower for focusing as unlike the filter you specified, you can't really

see at all through the Wratten 87 and it gets inconvenient taking it on and off for shots.

 

With the holders and gel (another gel that will work is the Lee 87 filter if you can't find the

Wratten for cheap) you'd still be in to the whole system for less than that filter, and then

you could probably find different gels to play with what suits you best for IR work.
