stephen_w.
If one is in AE with the lens opened a little (or a lot) too far that will cause the LEDs to blink 1000, will the camera shoot at 1/1000? I really like AE, once learned what and how it measures, it gives me one less thing to think about.

len_smith
Yes, it shoots at 1/1000 sec. I have tested my M7 bodies with a shutter speed tester and once they reach their fastest speed, they will not go any faster, but will still fire at that fastest speed. Of course it isn't exactly 1/1000 sec, and it does vary from camera to camera. The M8 is probably a huge improvement in that respect. I would buy a Leica film camera with the M8 shutter without any hesitation, both to get the improved shutter speed accuracy and also so I could use my 35mm Summilux wide open in daylight. I use a Konica Hexar RF because of its 1/4000 sec fastest shutter speed, but it ain't no Leica.
bob in seattle
One may buy a Leica camera with the "M8 Shutter", since is uses the same shutter as in the R8 and R9. I expect the design and engineering challenges to place that shutter assembly in the M7 were beyond common sense and cost limits. I agree that an "M7.5" with the R8/9 shutter might have made an even sweeter M... Bob in Seattle

Actually the M7 shutter is very accurate at all speeds. It will do 1/1000 with very good accuracy. http://www.imx.nl/photosite/leica/mseries/m7.html
stephen_w.
Thanks to all. Somehow I thought it would default to the highest mechanical speed, 1/125 or, not fire at all (dummy proof). I had never tried it.
