Need good source for rechargeable AA nickel metal hydride batteries

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to buy around 30 rechargeable AA nickel metal hydride batteries to

use primarily in my flashes. The more mAh the better! I bought some off of

Ebay but I am unhappy with the reliabilty/durability of them (Powerizers was

the brand). I only used them a handful of times and they are starting to die.

What brand can you recommmend from your experience? Where do you buy them from?

Thanks for you help! It is so appreciated. :)

I use the Lacrosse BC-900 it works great - it's cheap - gives you an on going charging readout while working. Here is an amazon link for it. KenRockwell.com has a review on it also. The only thing is it can only do two batteries at a time for the high capacity even though there is space for four. I don't think you need a battery pack using these types batteries. I find it very fast. Have three sets ready - two should cover a wedding.

Been using the new Sanyo ENELOOP. They are pretty amazing so far as the shelf life is several months. Some rechargable batteries have to be recharged after a few weeks to a month from just sitting around. These don't. They are 2700 mAh. You can get them at a lot of places depending where you live. I get them from Frys Electronic locally and they do have a website called outpost.com. http://www.eneloopcontest.com/eneloop.html

I'm using two Powerex MH-C808M eight cell Pro Chargers. It has a complete LCD

monoitoring system and features a conditioning mode and fast/soft charge selector.

Using 2700 Sanyos for the on-camera flashes and 2900 mAh Accupower Digital nmh

batteries for the handle flash and to run a Mamiya 635AFD-II.

Got all of it at Thomas Distributing. www.thomas-distributing.com

Sorry, but I have experience with Sunpak and they are TERRIBLE! The Sunpaks I used 2

years ago would last for about 10 minutes per charge in a little point and shoot digital and

were worthless within a few months.

<p>

I have recently been using the charger that Marc Williams mentioned, and I second that

suggestion. Used properly, it will maximize the life of your batteries. I use it with Energizer

2500 mah AA cells.

Look at this link: http://www.imaging-resource.com/ACCS/BATTS/BATTS.HTM

It's a little outdated, but you'll see that you can't go wrong with the higest rated Powerex

or Energizer. The last thing on the list is Sunpak. Granted, that is an old, low powered

version and I'l sure that the new ones might be a little better, but still - save yourself the

trouble and get Energizer or Powerex.

I'm also using the LaCrosse charger, so I'll add to the chorus of "it works well". And I just got some Enveloop batteries but I haven't used them long enough to actually develop an opinion.

The thing to remember is that most of the battery brands don't actually make batteries... Sanyo does... and I'm not sure who else.

I use Energizer batteries from Best Buy. I highly recommend the MAHA (powerex) charger as well. With the Canon 580ex flash (4AAs) and CPE3 pack (8AAs) I shot 800 shots at a wedding/reception including fill flash outdoors, the entire reception with flash and never had to change the batteries. No perceptible delay in recycle time.

For charger I use the MAHA MH-C801D

Consider frequency of usage when selecting a battery. For frequent weekly usage the Energizers 2500 mAh will do. For once a month usage, the Sanyo Eneloop are the best. I messed up my Energizers because they get drained in a week. If left uncharged for long periods of time, the Energizers get damaged. That is why I switched to the Eneloops. Enloops have 2000 mAh (less power but longer life).
