bv photography
Hello, I am considering purchasing a 430 EX TTL and using it on my 20D, for now. I'd appreciate your user comments and advices on possible issues between these two equipment pieces that I should be aware of prior to purchasing? Also, is 430 EX TTL a good choice if I moved towards 5D or similar replacement in the future? Thank you.
mark u
It should work fine with either camera, and if you later decide toexpand into Canon's wireless flash system, it will work as a slave. http://photonotes.org/cgi-bin/camera-flash-lookup.pl?cameraType=eos20d&flashType=canon430ex
chrisjb
For normal use it works very well, the 430EX has faster recycling than the 550`s we have, it also covers all the focus points in the 20d, the only issue we have had is overheating from extreeme heavy use. Its compact and reliable and makes a good slave as it can be used manually. HTH
NK Guy
There's no 'EX TTL' flash - there's the Speedlite 430EX, which is a flash unit capable of using both TTL and E-TTL flash. Is that the one you're talking about? The reason I'm being a bit fussy about the name is that there are actually four Canon flash units with very similar names - the Speedlites 420EZ, 430EZ, 420EX and 430EX. Of the four, the two EX units will work fine with digital cameras like the 20D, but the two EZ units won't.
ecphora
As others have said the 430EX will work fine with the 20D. Here's a shot with that same setup shot with a 17-40 L lens. http://www.photo.net/photo/5204737 One of these days I'll have to take the time and figure out how to link photos so you won't have to copy and paste. bob jr.
I prefer the 580 EX because I can hook up my auxilliary batter pack to it for more rapid recharging and prolonged firing.
