Favorite Use for a "Telephoto" Lens

Its great to put a 200mm lens on my 6x6 and go out in the field----I love how

it "pulls in" the moon behind a bird on a light pole...what are your favorite

uses for a "telephoto" lens....?

I like the way they compress perspective and make hills look steeper.

I find them useful to have in the bag as ballast when I need to hold down the tripod for a

I like to use telephoto lenses for taking frame-filling shots of things that are far away.

I like the low DOF they can give you in this format even at considerable distances.

For me, most of the above - I'm especially with Taras on their use in astrophotography, especially if the lens is fast enough. The 300mm f4 MC Sonnar (Pentacon Six mount) is a fantastic bang for the buck, and so good wide open that I always shoot it that way.

 

Here's another favorite use, but this time out of leftfield: I put together a combination of telescope and camera accessories that I already had, to make an eyepiece adapter for the Mamiya 645 mount. So I can put telescope eyepieces on my new Mamiya 645 200/2.8 APO telephoto, and use it as an ultra-compact, flatfield, widefield telescope with APO optics (;)). Two devices for the price of one, if you like.
