Cleaning Focusing Screen

Hi,

I've just picked up a really nice F2SB body but the focusing screen has a

lovely big fingerprint on it (top side I think). Do I clean this off in a

similar fashion to how you would get rid of a fingerprint off a lens or is

there more appropriate method ?

If it's the top side, you can try lens cleaning paper and fluid, or a microfiber cloth. If it's the other side (ground glass), I've never had good success with attempting to clean it beyond canned air to blow off dust.

Buy a new focusing screen.

I always soaked them in warm water and mild detergent, then rinsed in distilled water and blotted dry with a microfiber cloth.

almost exactly what Eric does, except that instead of blotting with a microfiber I give a final bath in laboratory grade ethyl alcohol.

 

Leave them alone to start with if you can.

What about using a lens pen.

Thanks for all the suggestions.........I ended up breathing on the screen after taking it out of the body and using a microfibre cloth wrapped around a Q-tip to clean the fingerprint off. Seemed to work a treat.
