Working with selections

Recommended Posts

I need some feedback on how to reduce the edges after working with different

selections in PS....feather has no effect...because I think the annoying

contour is some purple fringing brought into the image by adjusting the levels

in a selection at its edges....

Hope I made myself clear...

Thank you for your time and constructive comments...

It kind of works in the first one. Not the second.

What type of images are you working with? JPEG or TIFF? What bit depth?

Working with 16 bit TIFF images will allow you to edit with as little degradation to the image as possible.

You've got a lot of what looks like JPEG artifacting, especially in the second image. This can result from working on a JPEG and compressing it too much or editing and resaving it several times.

You've also got what looks like sharpening halos. What is your sharpening method? Have you tried High Pass Sharpening or sharpening via the Lightness Channel in LAB mode. Both of these will sharpen an image nicely but without the halos and fringing that can result from simply using Unsharp Mask. When in your workflow are you sharpening your images? It should usually be the last thing you do before saving.
