Anyone had an M2 or M3 Painted Recently?

I'm thinking about picking up a user M3 or M2 having it CLA-ed and then

painted black. Anyone done this lately? Is Shintaro (sp?) still painting?

What's his turnaround time?

Peter at CRR is a great technician. But that paint job is no Shintaro. Then

again, Shintaro's turnaround is reportedly up to a year - another rff member

complained about him recently... <p>

I would only advise, if you're going to do it, do it in the reverse order than you suggested.

 

Do the paint job first, then the CLA. The guy doing the painting may disturb some things that

may need to be corrected with the CLA.

I have had cameras painted by Shintaro and Peter and can say Peter did a better job. He will

also do the CLA at the same time. His turn around is about 4 weeks about 20 weeks faster

than Shintaro and charges less.

I have had paint jobs done by Shintaro on an M3 and by CRR on an M4 and M2R. I prefer the

CRR paint job. It like the CRR paint - it is smoother and has less gloss, and seems less prone

to damage. But it just depends on what you are looking for. Peter at CRR will return you a

camera that will literally look and behave like as if it just rolled off of the assembly line

inWetzlar in 1962.

Had many cameras (some are featured on his website) painted by Peter and can recommend him highly. I once or twice tried to contact Shintaro (before I discovered Peter) and never received a response. I see Tom A has a note on the RW site to contact him if you have trouble contacting Shintaro! Needless to say, neither one of these guys needs any more work.
