namnguyen
I'm in need of a better mid-range zoom and I see now there are Nikon 17 55, Tokina 16 50, Sigma 18 50 and Tamron 17 50mm. All of them DX lenses and 2.8. The Nikon is just out of question due to over-price. (Though I know it's good glass). So NO!I heard stories about horrible construction of the Tamron. NO! So, any one here has experience with the Sigma and the Tokina? Would you guys help me choose? I appreciate it real much. Thanks!Nam
mawz
Sigma's soft wide open. Tamron's a much better lens (And the build is decent on it, despite what people say about it). I'd go for the Tokina or the Tamron.
frankie_frank1
Nikkor may be orverpriced. But you will always find a buyer when you sell it later.
hash
There's a good bit of difference between 16mm and 18mm.
rainer_t
I thought the anounced Tokina 16-50/2.8 hasn't even hit the market. Between the Sigma and the Tamron I would take the Tamron. Rainer
namnguyen
thanks to all of you :) that was right, Tokina hasnt hit the market yet. I guess I'll go to a camera store and take a look at the Tamron then. Or should I wait for the Tokina to come out?
rob hopkins
Well i don't know anything about the tokina, but i have the tamron and i love it. Mine is extremely sharp, even at 2.8 it is very usable. I haven't had any problems with the construction and it has seemed like a very well put together lens. I would defiantly recommend this lens over the sigma, i don't know about the tokina because its not out but deffinatly take a look at the tamron. Uhooru
You don't like the 18-70? Nikkor?
namnguyen
I have the 24 85mm AFS and am fine with it being a little shot at wide-angle. But the fact that it 4.5, which is 1.3 stops slower than those above, annoys me a little! My other main concern with this lens is it still not sharp enough. (I shoot portrait with 60mm macro and I know what sharpness is). So will I be satisfied with the Tamron or the Tokina, given maximum opening? I wont buy if their f/4 is about the same as mine 5.
