godfrey
Export writes out the image files with edits to DNG, JPEG, PSD or TIFF files. Those image file types are standard across OS platforms. Godfrey
vatovec
I`m more worried about the develop parameters of the images - i have the originals on DVDs, i don`t want additional copies, just want to retain the develop parameters.
don_e
I haven't transferred files from one platform to the other, but the data is stored in the sidecar in xmp format, which, if you open one up in a text editor, you'll see is plaintext markup, xmp, similar to other markup 'languages', like html or xml. Therefore it is, by design, portable. I assume your dvd backup included the sidecars, not just the image files. -- Don E
godfrey
If you use DNG format RAW files, the DNG files will be updated with Lightroom's edit parameters. You can export the edit settings to an .xmp sidecar file if desired. If you use camera-native RAW files, those edit parameters will be stored in .xmp sidecar files matched to the original file's filename ... eg: IMGP0001.PEF will have IMGP0001.xmp created in the same directory and that will carry all the edit data. Note that at this time those edit settings are specific to Lightroom's use and do not interchange with Camera Raw's xmp metadata. In the future, presumably with Camera Raw v4, Lightroom and Camera Raw will share the RAW processing metadata. Godfrey
