edrodgers
The wider the better in this case.. You will definitely have distortion from any lens that wide. Maybe you will have to be creative with the posing.. 3 rows of 5, back row standing on blocks, middle row standing, front row leaning or sitting high... The 1.5 conversion factor is working against you on this camera.. Maybe something like 15mm..
pete_s.
I agree, you need an rectilinear ultra wide angle lens - Nikkor 12-24 or something to that effect. 12mm will cover about 10 ft wide from a 5 ft distance. But it will be tricky shooting people because the increased perspective / wide angle "distortion".
ni_gentry
15 people at 5 feet away? That's tough to do without distorion and/or crowding them together. Get a fisheye lens and have fun with it!
danallen
Try using a small step ladder or even a chair to stand on to get above them and shoot down. It'll be a more interesting angle and help get a tad more distance. Dan
johnnysks
That is a really bad situation. You sure you cannot convince them to change the shooting location?
timberwulf
Funny, I just told a larger group last night that I would be unable to shoot a nice group shot for this exact reason. Ended up shooting some more detailed semi-candids instead. :)
phil vaughan - yorkshire u
I'm with Dan, you need to get high, I'd also go as wide as possible and have fun with the resultant distortion.
