avisionen
hello members! since i have got the mamiya rz i am very pleased with it and my shift too, it does work very well. But now i do like to extend my equipment an i am thinking of bying a wideangle lens. Can anybody tell me anything about the 50 / f4.5 wideangle lens for the mamiya RZ? What about the quality/condition of focus of the lens and what to look for espacially when I do the diagnosis? If there is anybody who has got experience - please give me a note. Thanks a lot in advance Andreas V
mag_miksch
Like all Mamiya lenses very nice, ( and very wide; so difficult to shade and needs slim filters.)
Regards
Martin
pmarcus
Newer ones are better, they have a second ring for close focus adjust (manually floating elements). Has a more evenly illuminated field than Zeiss 50mm, but the corners aren't as sharp. If you have a Mamiya, you're stuck with it, but then, it's a pretty good lens to be stuck with. markbristol
Andreas, I have both the 50 ULD and the 65 LA. Both are used for landscape photography only. Both are critically sharp center and corners. The earlier version without the floating system is said to be inferior. I have made huge enlargements of some shots that held incredible detail imo comparable to large format. The 50 uld doesn't come cheap though. KEH has a few and they run aroung $900, which is what I paid for mine. I have seen some go on ebay for as little as $650.00 If you go that route let me know as I have used the 50 for thousands of shot and got the use of the floating system perfected. Have fun, Mark B.
