david_simonds
Friends, my main printer is a 7800. My primary papers are Innova F and Silver Rag. I worked my way up through the Epson line and still have a 2400. I have been looking at some of the images that I printed on the 2400 with Epson Velvet and Ultrasmooth papers and have been a bit smitten again by that elegant, flat finish. Because switching out photo to matte inks on the 7800 wastes in the vicinity of $70 in ink, so I am told, I thought I might proof matte images on the 2400 and if they look good, I will switch out the black on the 7800 for a printing marathon. My question is whether the Epson profiles for Velvet and Ultrasmooth will yield identical results so that a proof on the 2400 will look the same, only bigger, on the big brother. Thanks. www.whitemountainphoto.com
David, possible, but I've found it's not even in the ballpark with my R2400 vs. my 4000. I wouldn't bet on it. Dana
philfx
4000 is a very differnt animal vs the 7800/4800 line. Not sure with basic drivers.. but you can likely get close if you tweak profiles. If above doesnt work, and it cannot do the proofing, buy a 4800 for the solution you describe. It is the closest low cost solution, since prices are down to $1500...or get the 3800. You will make up in ink costs. Hopethis helps
david_simonds
Gents thanks for your replies. Dana, I would agree with Phil that the 4000 line is quite different. I have got a 2200 as well and would regard the 2400 as more the equivalent to the 7800. By the way, love your imagess of the Rock Pile - one of my favorite places in the worls. patricklavoie
I got both and get pretty similar result, i should say similar at 99%. Same paper, Same ink, Same Setting on both. I print on Velvet, Enhanced Mat, Hanenulher Photo Rag Duo.
david_simonds
Patrick, thanks for yours. Just what I was looking for. Can you describe that Photo Rag paper - say compared with the Vevet which I know well? Thanks.
philfx
That is interesting Patrick, Care to elaborate on the output settings/process on each that match up? This would help loads.
