cmars
i see this fairly often, in which photo's will be darker at the four corners of the frame but i rarely get this effect on my own experience unless by accident. Is there an in-camera technique i am not aware of or a particular type of equiptment/filter/lens responsible for this effect? or is it just a coincidence of the available light. gdanmitchell
It is vignetting. Some poor lenses will do this a bit at no extra charge. ;-) You could fit a lens hood that isnt' big enough, and you can also simulate the effect in software. cosmic_c
One technique to get this in post processing is to do a selection in the image, using say the elipse/circle tool, of the part of the image you do not want affected. Invert the selection CNTRL I which will select the corners, feather to taste (say 10 to 30 pixels), Apply curves as an adjustment layer, darken as required and adjust opacity to fine tune. papasan
another technique is to simply use the burn tool and apply to each corner to achieve the effect you want. I prefer this approach as it seems to lead more realistic results. I usually apply this on an adjustment layer for greater flexibility
dave_dube
The technique that Cosmic refers too is one used to direct the eyes to the point of interest. Highly effective when done well. Sounds like Cosmic has used it a time or two.<P>Regards, Dave
