jim_mcculloch
When i attempt to connect my Olympus x-730 camera to my Windows XP Professional computer using the USB cable provided I lose all other USB devices. Example: I have 2 USB ports on the front of my PC, one has an Sitecom Wirelass Lan adapter plugged in, and the other is empty. When i connect the camera in the empty port I lose my internet/network connection; when i remove the camera, network activity returns to normal. If it was just the case of losing network while i transfered photos, then i could probably live with that. But the worst part is, the camera does nothing when connected to the computer. I believe the monitor is supposed to turn on and I can do the biz. The camera is not recognised by Olympus Master software, or by Windows as an Mass Storage device. I have tried this on 2 pc's - with the same results. (the camera is turned off, as per instructions). I'd appreciate any help if somebody has experienced this before and has found a solution. Is it something I am doing wrong, or is it a new camera job? Thanks in advance Jim.
mark bucher
I'm assuming you're using xD cards with the camera? Try picking up an external card reader and plugging your cards into that instead of the camera directly. That way the system doesn't have to synch with your camera when you plug it in, it's already read the card readers drivers at startup and it's always ready to go. I never lug my cameras into any of my computers, I've got three external USB card readers and it always works. Mark
mark u
If you want to plug the camera in directly, try a port on the back of the computer. The ones on the front are probably on a hub, rather than directly connected to the motherboard. A card reader is generally a better solution. The Olympus MAUSB 300 is inexpensive, about the size of a USB flash memory stick and works with all current XD cards.
