robert_k1
I recently acquired a Nikkor 25-50mm f4 zoom and love its sharpness. But I have been unable to find a 72mm hood for it. The rubber one I tried would cause vignetting at the wide end. Does Nikon (or someone else) has one that won't vignette? Thanks.
christiaan_phleger___honol
The offical Nikon Hood is the HK-7, which does double duty for the 28mm 1.4. They are uncommon, and even when found on the Bay are expensive. I think its worth it, one sits on my 25-50 all the time, good lens.
eric friedemann
I loathe Nikon's HK line of slip-on lens hoods. As such I use a screw-on HN-9 hood on my 28mm f/1.4. The HN-9 is designed for the 28mm PC Nikkors- its less expensive than the HK hood and its cut wide enough that it may work on a 24-50mm without vignetting. I think the HN-9 has been discontinued: http://www.nikonlinks.com/Third-Party/Lens-Hoods_Rick-Housh.htm
jeff h.
FWIW, the Nikkor 24-50/3.3-4.5D (62mm) lens takes the HB-3 hood.
Michael R Freeman
Unfortunately, the HB-3 will *not* fit the 25~50mm f/4. An alternative to the HK-7 or HN-9 might be the generic 72mm screw-on wide angle metal hoods that quite a few sellers flog on eBay (just do a search for "wide hood 72mm" and you'll get quite a few hits). Around $10. You'll want to skip the flower petal versions offered, since these won't work on the 25~50mm (the filter mount rotates on this lens). Some sellers will even sell you a "digital" version of the same hood. :-) As a point of reference, the HN-9 is 97.5mm dia x 13.5mm deep, the HK-7 is 97mm x 13mm (with thanks to the late Rick Housh). If you go the generic route, you might want to confirm the dimensions of the hood with the vendor to make sure it is close to those dimensions. luis triguez
After looking for an original HK-4 for my 35-70 AI -72 mm filter- I got it new one from Collectcamera in Netherlands for 73 euros, USD 87 more or less. Very expensive indeed. So, prepare your pocket if you want the originally one, unless you have the lucky to find something in ?bay. tommyinca
If not more rare, the 72mm screw-on hood for the 19mm Fujinon will fit just fine. It is only 1 mm shorter then the HK-7 and almost same outer diameter with no vignetting. Hope this help a little. Two rare make it less rare :-)
robert_k1
Thanks to the responses and suggestions. Yeah, a "digital" hood does make a difference, in my wallet. <g>
rafa batlle
I use it with the HN9, this lens is so sharp there is never a need to close it beyond F11. the HN9 darkens the extreme corner at F16 and F22 when mounted on a filter and at 25mm, but it does not darken the corner at f11 and below.
