david_drennon
I'm trying to use the self-timer to do a self portrait with a 5D, but the camera has to lock focus prior to the timer going off, so when I try to sit where the focus was locked and I don't get it EXACT, it looks like crap. Anyone know how to deal with this best? Any help would be appreciated.
m3rdpwr
Perhaps do you have an extra stand or tripod you can sit roughtly where you would be standing and place an object such as a tennis ball or stuffed animal on it? You could press the shutter half way to focus on it and than click away and move into position. Not the greatest way, but. Sorry, that's all that came to mind when I tried some self portraits for myself... -Mario
roy1
Can't you just switch to Manual focus? Otherwise i would think the AF lock would do the trick... Sorry if i'm not understanding you right.

If you're trying to have the camera focus by itself and then fire i don't think that is an option (meaning you have to set the focus and jump in)
phoneguy
Manual focus on a dummy object, or have a person stand in the spot for you while you achieve focus.
kelton
Measure your distance from the camera, set lense on manual focus and focus to that distance (Assumming you have a distance guide on the lense). Use a small enough aperature (maybe f8 or f11) to give yourself some room.
