sam_portera
I have searched but could not find an answer, please forgive me if this has been asked before. If you have said lens and a film body handy, could you please mount the Tokina to a film body? At what focal length does it not vignette? I am curious as to if the Tokina has a large enough image circle to allow it to be used in some way on a film body. I have read that the Nikkor can be used as a 18-24. Just trying to get all the facts as I peice together a Digital/Film kit.
photo5
Yes, I have mounted my Tokina 12-24 to my Nikon F3HP and it is usable from 18-24mm, wider than 18mm will vignett. Of course, on an F3HP there is no aperture control... Dave

ShunCheung
Since the Tokina 12-24mm/f4 has no aperture ring just like a Nikon G lens, you cannot really use it on a manual-focus film body or on a Canon EOS body via an adapter, as you'll have no way to control the aperture. Moreover, since it is not AF-S, you'll lose AF on the new low-end Nikon DSLR D40.
darrengold
The sigma 12-24mm is usable on film and digital. No vignetting. Great lens.
darrengold
...and you can use it with the D40.
ShunCheung
The problem with the Sigma 12-24 is that it is a big lens with a large, convex front element. You cannot use any front filter on it, and it is not constant f4 throughout. At least IMO, the fact that the Sigma can cover the full 35mm film frame is not important. When I shot film, I rarely needed wider than 20mm and in fact didn't use my 20mm/f2.8 very often. When I bought the 17-35mm/f2.8, I found 17mm just too wide and not all that useful. At a pinch, I am perfectly happy to use my 12-24mm/f4 DX on a film body as a 18mm super wide. At least to me, it is more than sufficient.
