danwal
I was thinking of purchasing the Mark 2. Is there a significant difference betwnne the two bodies?I found the Mark 2 is a little bit cheaper. Thanks for any help.
jcraig
Basically the 2N has a larger LCD and offers Picture Styles for jpeg shooting. The II (non-N) offers ability to upload to the camera custom tone curves; this functionality removed in the IIN.
yakim_peled1
For me, the larger screen and weaker AA filter (according to most users who had both) are enough to make me get the N model. Once I sell my 1D that is..... Happy shooting, Yakim.
catchlight
I just considered the same question and bought a mint 1D MkII for $2400. It was located here in Canada, so there was no sales tax (normally 15% on imports to BC). The best price I could find for an N model was $3100 plus 15% tax, an awful big premium to pay for a slightly bigger LCD and a couple of other minor enhancements. You could get a pretty nice lens for the $700 difference. I have the bigger LCD on my 5D, and it's no big deal because I'm more interested in chimping the histogram than the image. mark_chappell
I think the N also has a bigger buffer, thus allowing more shots in a high frame-rate action sequence. I shoot a lot of flying birds at 8.5 frames/second with a 'plain' Mk. II, and there are often times when I wish the buffer was larger.
the the
Brent: Sales tax in B.C. is 13 per cent, not 15 per cent. Or did you mean 15 per cent with import duties included? (Although I've never paid import duties on the camera equipment I've bought from the U.S.A.)
sergey_oboguev
According to some comparisons, 1D2N hold highlights better and has weaker AA filter than 1D2.
andrew robertson
"According to some comparisons, 1D2N hold highlights better and has weaker AA filter than 1D2" Is this for real, or is it an internet rumor?
yakim_peled1
Canon says nothing about this so it is a rumor. Nevertheless, Canon says nothing about a silent upgrade of the 400/4 DO but there are plenty of user evidence that suggest that something like this has indeed happen. When there is a bulk of users who claim that 'X' happened then even if it was not stated thus by Canon, I tend to believe then. YMMV. Happy shooting, Yakim. danwal
Thanks for the reponse. I have talked to some other suceesful wildlife and sports photographers, and they have had no problemms with the highlights in the Mark 2 as opposed to the Mark2N
