nicole_priore
I am not new to wedding photography, however new to website work! I am currently working on my website and just tying up some loose ends. I am hearing different angles regarding using my work on my website as part of viewing portfolio. I know when it comes to children, to obtain a release, which is fine, but when it comes to product and wedding...i'm leary of a problem and a stickler to find definative answers before moving forward. So...can I use my photos on my website as a portfolio?
annealmasy
Your wedding contract with your clients should include a model release. This is my understanding where weddings are concerned: you were invited to a private event by those hosting the event. Any photographs you take may be shown on your website. However, you would not be able to use the images for paid advertising (such as an ad in a magazine) without permission from anyone in the photo. We show our work on our website all the time. But if anyone ever asked us to remove a photograph, we will gladly do so. We try to limit homepage images to details or shots of the bride a groom (since we do have model releases from them). Other images are enclosed within galleries titled with the event name.
mark_jacoby___raleigh__nc
Our contract has a section which grants ok to use images for display in studio and on website, etc. We however can not sell an image. E-mail me and I'll send you a copy of the contract for your review.
jenacolson
One thing you can do is to put a disclaimer on your web site (in addition to a clause in your contract as mentioned earlier) that says something to the effect of "We cannot guarantee that all persons depicted in the photographs have consented to the display of their image on this site. If your photograph appears on this site without your consent and you wish to have it removed, please contact us at...".
terence_spross1
What is considered OK for the photographer in the case of photos taken years ago where the contract didn't mention anything about rights to the images at all (except that enlargements/reprints must be ordered thru the photographer)? If the clinets are now celebrities can the photographer sell images to the news media? Or post the photos?
marv_stasak___southfield__
Terrence, Regarding pix of celebrities, check out ASMP. They publish guidelines on those matters. Also, EP. Their website and forums cover this matter ad infinitum.
