Hey folks,

I'm looking at getting a confertible boom stand, and I drilled down to two

almost identical stands: the

Boom Aluminum Stand.
The specs look pretty much identical, but there is a relatively significant

price difference.
Can anyone recommend one stand or the other? Any major differences between

the two?

I've been researching about good boom + stand combinations. I'm very happy with Avenger Century stands. I use it to support monolights and have found them rugged and dependable. I have decided to buy one more to support a boom with monolight + medium softbox.

This is what I'm going to buy:

I'd like to hear from other people as well.

Look at the weight?the Avenger weighs almost twice as much and is a heavier duty stand. I have the A410B stands, which is the same except for the boom, and it is very well made and sturdy, and has a larger foot print than the Bogen. But between the two you mention FOR USE AS A BOOM, I would choose the Bogen, because a wheel set is available, and I like wheels on my booms. But if you do not want wheels, get the Avenger.

The A475 is certainly the more heavy duty of the two...it can support twice the weight at maximum extension(11lbs vs. 4.4lbs), more "solid" fittings, and has an adjustable leg for leveling on uneven ground(not that necessary in a studio setting). That said, the 3397 has a two postion end spigot(useful in underslinging the light) and is most likely more than adequate for studio/strobe use.
