My new 5D questions

Hello,

First, I would like to thank everybody in this forum for all the valuable

information provided that helped me to make a my decisions. About a week ago I

made the jump and upgraded from my trusty 35 mm cameras to a digital. So far, I

am more then impressed with my new 5D. Together with 24-70 mm L 2.8, 50mm 1.4,

100mm 2.8 Macro and 70-200mm L 4.0 it is a mazing piece of equipment. But I have

two questions:

1. On page 172 of the manual shows a battery CR2016 pointing to the bottom of

the camera. I know that most of the digital cameras have a battery to keep the

date/time going when the main battery is removed. However, there is no mention

anywhere else in the manual where the battery is nor I can find a compartment

with the battery in the camera. Is that a mistake in the manual? Will the time

reset with the main battery removed?

2. I was using the * button on my EOS3 for focusing. I can do the same on 5D

with the difference that the same button works as FEL button. On my EOS 3 the

FEL button is in the front of the camera and can be switched to the back where

the AF selection button is. Do I read the manual correctly? Do I have to

choose between focus and FEL?

Thanks

Ales

Hi,

1) If you look on the underside of the camera, just under the digital out and remote

sockets, you will see a small "open" label by two screws.

If you unscrew those screws you can slide the date/time battery out and change it.

2). Just tried it, you do lose FEL. Why didn't you just try it out yourself?

regards,

Congrats on your new 5D.

In my 5D manual, instructions for changing the time and date battery are on page 41. It is in the GETTINGS STARTED section of the manual and follows the page with instructions for setting the date and time. The same page says the time and date must be reset after changing the battery. Expected life of the "Date/Time Battery" is 5 years.

My version of the manual must be different than yours since I have no illustration on page 172. (I got my 5D about 11 months ago.) There is a SYSTEM MAP illustration on pages 168-169 which shows the approximate location of the battery.
