thomas,

well executed; the hint of yellow is nice. have you considered presenting this rotated 180 degrees?

anders,

it's difficult to do a "leaf on ground" shot without being kitschy. you succeeded with "falt".

here's some more from me (past two days on the bike):
http://vukfoto.com/exhib/end_fall2006/

the last of the set is through the little known pentax 30mm f/2.8 lens which is proving to be an excellent piece of glass. i can't recall who put me onto this (purchased on ebay a while ago but not used until recently), but i do want to thank you!

Some new fall pictures:

Anders: I looked at your photos on p.net, I especially liked the hands. Your work is very interesting and not the typical. Are you really selling those beautiful old Takumars? My first new lens purchase was the 28mm f3.5 (since stolen).

Vuk: Thanks for encouraging some activity beyond technical discussions on the Pentax forum. You have a great eye for extracting the interesting from the mundane (reminiscent of Ernst Haas). I love the "Web" photo. I hope you don't mind, but you have inspired me to add titles to some photos; it really can add something, so I have included them in this posting. The grate was taken with a M 50mm f1.4 and the leaf with a M 28mm f3.5.

Vuk: Thanks for encouraging some activity beyond technical discussions on the Pentax forum.--thomas janik

thomas, it's absurd for there to be so much technical talk that's, for the mostpart, removed from any practical application. part of deciding what's good is figuring out the sort of things one wants to achieve when creating images and that's something another person can not tell you. worst of all, this exchange of opinion without the supporting weight/evidence of pictures often leads to the propagation of unfounded biases. for example, over on the leica forum, people kept going on about how a 90mm lens i owned was rubbish (i suspect mainly because it was made in canada as opposed to germany--something a collector would find critical). now, as this happens to be my favourite bit of glass when photographing girls, i posted a picture of what i took to be excellent results and suddenly the trash talk stopped.

anyhow, back on topic: your "memories of friends" shot is bloody excellent and i hope you'll forgive me if i steal the idea at some point ;-)

here are yet a few more from me:

things are getting bleaker and it will soon be winter pics...

Thanks for the generous compliment Vuk; I enjoyed your review of the DS and admire your photos (most recently "Charms") which makes your praise all the more significant. You can, of course "steal" the idea, particularly since I stole the idea of titles from your work.

I have wondered why the internet photo discussions are predominately centered on the tools of photography rather than photographs. Do painters endlessly discuss brushes and paints and not paintings? Anyway, if I take any more photos of interest I'll post them, perhaps a few more readers might be willing to post some of theirs as well.

thomas, i can hardly take credit for the idea of giving titles to pictures ;-)

btw--the ones you see are presented as part of the HTML i've fabricated, they're not actually embedded in the JPEG or anything like that. i've actually got a bit of software i wrote that creates these little presentation sets.

Vuk: The Grey Gelding and the Mozart one is excellent. They would hang on my wall if I had taken them :)

Thomas: I must agree with Vuk about the Memories. I really like it.

I am selling the Takumars, but only because I have gotten my hands on the K-mount equivalents.

"pentax 30mm f/2.8 lens which is proving to be an excellent piece of glass. i can't recall who put me onto this (purchased on ebay a while ago but not used until recently), but i do want to thank you!"

Vuk, I did mention that lens to you last year, have never seen one myself, but I hear very good things about it.

Fall is quickly blowing away here in Toronto (as you know);-)
00IcZP-33253484.jpg.ba7f2bfd9ca7026ef4fbd0ffdd8b048a.jpg

"thomas, i can hardly take credit for the idea of giving titles to pictures ;-)"

I should have been more detailed. Many photos have titles which indicate the place or the intent/feeling of the photographers. The former are always nice to know but has little impact on the viewer; the latter sometimes work, sometimes they seem contrived and border on pretentious. What appealed to me in many of your titles is the light-hearted verbal/visual pun created; it adds an extra dimension and enhances the viewing. Case in point is "Mozart?" I would likely not notice the resemblance to music and cave paintings.

Anders: Thanks for the comment. Are you sure you want to sell the Takumars? Used Pentax prices seem to be going upwards right now in anticipation of the K10D and they don't make lenses like that anymore; they may be worth more in the future. I have only the M versions now, but one of my favorite lenses was the Takumar 20mm (f4.5, I think); big, but better than the small M version. BTW, my maternal grandfather emigrated from Bergen. His family was from the Myrmel/Sande area, are you anywhere near there?

I've never seen a 30mm f2.8, but the 28mm f3.5 is not bad either.

Regards all

Vuk: It must have been the younger brother that I saw. See attachment. This is almost like cloud watching, seeing different shapes and figures depending on how you look at it.

Thomas: I know that prices are going up, but I have enough Pentax lenses to buy a small car if I sell them :)

Anyway the K-series I have that replace these are the same optically, but with the bayonet. They are very solid and I prefer the heft of these compared to the M-series that followed.

Not yet. I just got the camera and the lens, so I'm just starting to use it. I'll try to take some and post them this weekend.

I normally shoot with Nikon stuff, but I couldn't resist those 3 pancake lenses and a small, light body. So, Pentax is a new experience for me. So far so good.
