Most compact M lens?

The new 28/2.8 ASPH looks nice and compact, but I wonder if its more compact than the 40/2.0C ?

Spec for the 28/2.8 say that its 30mm in length, I take it that this is taken from the very end of the

mount (not at the flange) to the lens (without hood) and set at infinity. Any one got a new 28/2.8 (or

demo) they can measure?

 

My 40/2.0C is coming at 29mm. With its collapsible rubber hood I'm sure its still the most compact

lens kit in the entire M lens range*. And lightest weighing in at 120g [vs 180g (28/2.8)]

I wonder what the original Elmar 3.5cm rim set measure. They were F L A T

40 summicron-c or 40 rokkor-m are the smallest most compact in my experience.

My 50mm Elmar-M is 21.6mm collapsed, and 37.6 in working position. So, if you average the

two you come up with 29.6mm... ;-)

The Kobalux 28mm f3.5 is amazingly compact - 17mm from the flange at infinity. Nice lens too, if you can live with the slow speed.

There is a Kobalux 28/3.5 on ebay right now (mine)#160040803434. Pretty tiny lens, great performer.

paul, thanks for the offer but f3.5 is too slow for me. even at f2.8 i'm borderline
