savone
I am looking for a walk about lense with good IQ. I love the 17-70 range of this lense but since it is so new it is hard to get opinions on it. I have seen some test shots on pbase and such. But I was wondering what anyone who owns one or has shot with one thinks. Any suggestions for lenses in this range would be appreciated.
etan_lightstone
If it were HSM I might consider it as a great alternatvive to the 17-85. But alas... it isn't. Nor is it "EX"... which is means it'll be typical sigma build quality.
jimstrutz
I hope it's great, but... It looks like it's basically the digital crop version of Sigma's 28-105 f/2.8-4. A distinctly poor lens in my experience.
ian riches
It's compared with the Canon 17-85 IS USM here:
http://www.pbase.com/fstopjojo/17701785
savone
What is your opinion on that 17-70 vs 17-85 comparison?
etan_lightstone
Wow looks promising. I think the days of Sigma producing turds might be finally over. Too bad its not in a range I need. I already have a Sigma 10-20mm and a Tamron 28-75 2.8 It would be a little redundant to get the 17-70. Although it would have been a nice alternative had I not already aquired the tamron. What do you think?
jim_mueller2
I've been looking for a walk-around lens in this range for vacations. The review looks pretty good, both in build quality and optically. Focusing is reported to be slower than the Canon 17-85 but still good enough it seems. I may order one.
