paul_viapiano
I'm looking at an RZ67 Pro II 220 back, and it seems different than the plain vanilla Pro 220 back in that there doesn't seem to be foam light seals involved in the design. Is this correct? Or is the foam missing from the back I'm describing? Thanks!
joseph_e._forks
That's correct, at least for my backs. No foam in the Pro II, but the former versions do have foam. I just replaced the foam in my older backs. Best Joe
paul_viapiano
Joe... How did you replace the foam? Did a repair shop do it, or Mamiya? Very curious, because I may have to do this with a few of the Pro backs I just acquired... Thanks!
rdkirk
You can get foam kits inexpensively from the Mamiya parts department--the strips are self-adhesive. Call 914-347-3300 to order. The Pro II doesn't have foam because the channel formed by the door and the back are deep enough to be light tight. However, the door is only polycarbonate (the door on the Pro is steel). That polycarbonate WILL chip if you drop the back on a hard surface, and their goes your light-tightness. A new door is $68.00. Don't ask me how I know. paul_viapiano
Thanks, Kirk!

The place where the seals need replacing is not on the door of the back, but in the thin channels on the rear side of the film insert.

I've just heard from a guy on eBay who sells light seal foam kits, with instructions. He doesn't have specific instructions for the RZ67 but it looks pretty simple if you have the time and inclination. Since I have about 4 220 backs that need to be done, I may try it.

Check it out here...

What do you think?
joseph_e._forks
Paul, I used one of Jon Goodman's light seal kits off of the *bay. One of the $9.99 kits is enough to do 4 backs easily with leftovers. Jon is great guy with great service, you won't have any problems. paul_viapiano
Joseph... Thanks very much for the info! Jon was very friendly and quick with an email response, so I will definitely try to tackle the job myself, considering I have quite a few backs to fall back on. No pun intended :)
