Which Photo Printer?

I am looking to buy a photo printer for my work. I send most of my

files out for printing, but I would like to get something small and

portable to use when I am on-site. I have done a little research and

it looks like Epson might be the way to go. I don't think I will be

printing larger than 4x6s. Any suggestions?

There are two approaches:

 

1) Full size inkjet: either R220 (6 colour dye based inkjet) or R800 (8 colour pigment based inkjet).

 

2) PictureMate 6 colour pigment based 4"x6" printer. This is indeed small and very portable. There are 3 versions.

The HP R800 is a really good printer for 8x10 glossy prints but it is not very portable. I also use a little 4x6 HP Photosmart 375 which really is surprisingly good and very portable. There may be newer models. I will generally insert a CF card in the HP printer, select the image on the small LCD screen, and print it. You're done.

I had been looking a the picture-mate. Maybe that is the way to go. From the reviews I read it sounded like the HP printers ink stayed wet for a quite a while and it made it a little more difficult to work with.

 

Alistair Windsor: I checked out your images on photo.net. Very nice. Can you tell me what type of light you used for the "gig" images?

I had looked into this for an event and came up with the hiti 730ps printers... the quality looks pretty good and they really seem designed for on site stuff... the drawback is that they dont go bigger than 6x8, but its also how they stay small...
