phil_kneen
I'm looking for somewhere to buy really good red, orange and yellow filters for my 35mm'lux.Who makes good filters anyway? john_chan2
Phil, check out the heliopan filters. They are top quality and cost effective (as well as being one of the few filter companies to cater to Leica's weird thread sizes). You should be able to find red, orange, and yellow filters in the 46 thread size. Or else go to B+W.
david_seaman1
Best filters, without breaking the bank, are probably those of B&W available from Fieldgrass & Gale of London.
harold3
Hi Phil
Schneider makes some very nice filters under the B+W name. You can get them from, among others, http://www.robertwhite.co.uk
I use Heliopan filters (made using Schott glass) and have found them very good. Robert White also stocks these.
Both the above makes use brass mounting rings.
I think that there is a little company from Solms called Leica which certainly used to offer its own brand filters, though I'm not sure what the size of the range of coloured filters is now.
Hope this helps
mr_hard
Why not use the broken end of a pint glass the next time you get into a bar fight?

f._william_baker
Best filters for Leica would either B+W or Hoya. Rumour is that Hoya make the Leica filters. Leica buys raw glass from Hoya and Schott that they have made to their specs. You won't go wrong with either Leica, Hoya or B+W.
budc
I'm pretty sure Leitz/Leica filters were from B+W. Also, Hoya filters are not of the quality of B+W or Heliopan. Among other things, Hoya filters are mounted in aluminum rather than brass. There is a reason the German filters cost more. There is no free lunch.
Both B+W and Heliopan use Schott glass that is dyed in the vat. I also think that the majority of glass used by Solms comes from Schott. paul_nelson2
I get my filters from Robert White in the UK. They have a website, and sell Heliopan filters. Great service, good price, best product money can buy. PN
