joe_dales
I am getting ready to buy a fisheye lens for my Rebel XT. Is thereany big differences between the Canon 15mm f/2.8 and Sigma 15mm f/2.8? From all the reviews I have read they both seem to be about the same. Any info would be great. Thanks. medina photography cherry
how much price difference is there? If it isn't alot, go with the Canon.
toddklassy
Wrong answer. The Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye doesn't offer much of a fisheye effect on the Rebel XT with its 1.6 crop factor. I wouldn't recommend the Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG for the same reason. The fisheye effect is not very impressive at all at 15mm. The closest thing you can get to a true fisheye effect is the Sigma 8mm f/4 EX DG. A little bit of the top and the bottom gets chopped off, but there is still enough of a fisheye effect to make it seem as such. You can see examples some of photos I have taken with the Sigma 8mm f/4 EX DG lens here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/latitudes/tags/fisheye/ Good luck, Todd

roger pfister
The shot below is with the Peleng as are most in this gallery http://www.pbase.com/rpf/barcelona<div></div>
toddklassy
Yes, and I knew about the Peleng, but optically I think the Sigma 8mm is a superior lens. The Peleng might be more fun in certain circumstances, but I feel the Sigma 8mm is the best available fisheye for cameras with a 1.6 crop factor. joe_dales
Todd are the pictures that you took with the Sigma 8mm f/4 EX DG lens on a camera with 1.6x crop? I would love to get that lens but I own a club that has a lot of concerts and the f/2.8 would be nice to have for the low lighting.
toddklassy
Yes, the photos you saw in the link I posted above are on a Canon 20D that has a 1.6 crop factor. Todd
bobatkins
I'd go for an 8mm. Sigma or Peleng. Here's a brief review of fisheye lenses on a DSLR with a 1.6x crop factor: http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/reviews/wide-angle-lenses-2.html
