jcgoodman
For LTM enthusiasts, here is a pic of my old, uncoated Telyt 20cm lens - it is joined to a PLOOT mirror housing and early Leica IIIc, with PAMOO 90-degree eyepiece and tubular frame-finder. Sometimes I add a SCNOO trigger-winder. Despite the mass of equipment, the outfit is surprisingly well-balanced when hand-held.<div></div>

jsc1
John Charles Goodman... YIKES! I see a skinny, original Leitz neckstrap! You carry all that stuff around your neck?
jcgoodman
Hello Josiah - not actually swinging from my neck. I just use the neckstrap as a safeguard against the millstone dropping to the ground and making a nasty crater in the concrete! John.

jcgoodman
Actually, this cat is Rio - a lethargic male, not so much model material as Cleo the long-haired female - she featured in my Thambar shots some weeks back. :) Cheers.

jv1
After a while I could even discover a camera in that first pic!
alex_lofquist
I shot in Africa with that setup many years ago. Even when I went to Nikon AF some years later (due to vision problems) I could not bear to part with it. It is lighter than an equivalent SLR, though hardly quick focussing. david_werbeloff1
Wow John, what a set-up! I didn't realize that the eyepiece and prism were meant to hook around the side of the camera body. It all makes sense now that I see that the accessory shoe is then oriented toward the top of the camera. Question is, if you're looking directly through the lens why do you need an additional 20cm viewfinder? Great cat pics, especially the second showing the alert eye of the Great Hunter skulking in the bushes! I've used the 280mm with a Viso III handheld and that feels hard enough to hold steady and focus accurately. The PLOOT must be much more difficult, and yet your images provide evidence of the wonderful results.
jcgoodman
Hello David W. - Most shooting is done using the framefinder, with mirror lock up, with the reflex option used initially to check focus - good for close-focusing on still subjects. Otherwise I would have to use a twin-cable release which gets a bit clumsy. Sometimes I have used the later VISO I + a Bencini brand cine pistol grip with single cable release leading to a Leitz pneumatic release connecting camera and mirror. In my setup, above, the 90-degree eyepiece (PAMOO) is of the first design using a mirror, making the image appear upside-down. A later prism version, such as is used on Reprovit copying stand, erected the image, making for ease of use. The setup, as I pictured it above, represents the best that could be obtained around 1940. Cheers.
andrew robertson
Kind of has a low contrast look to it.
carl_larocca1
I have the glass but my only accessories are a Leica CIII and a Zenit 3M. At one time I had computed the total of tube extension needed to mount it and retain infinity focus. I planned to zone focus from f/8 down and cover up the framelines in a 135 viewfinder. Suffice to say the project is on the very back burner.
