huw_finney
Having got used to seeing an M2 having bits cut off, here are the gory details of the rewind boss and the takeup spindle being removed.

tim_franklin
This is getting like a splatter movie! ;-)
johnny massey
I look forward to that day when the storm is directly overhead, you flick the BIG SWITCH and the monster springs to life . . .

michael s.
Please go to this page, Huw, and affix appropriate rating.
I'm thinking "Mature Audience" at a minimum, but this would exclude so many of us .... myself included :)
erin.e
Aha the answer is clear now Huw, the secret is out, you are such a good camera fiddler because you have three arms and hands, otherwise how did you photograph this, while sawing off those extremities, while holding the M2 down on the desk? johnny massey
Perhaps an assistant . . . eye-gore?
huw_finney
Erin, simple I just stopped and left the saw there.
charles_stobbs3
What kind of anesthesia do you use?
huw_finney
I don't use any anesthetic at all, just grit my teeth, doesn't hurt a bit.
michael s.
<< ... Perhaps an assistant . . . eye-gore? ... >> Another possibility for an assistant: Al Gore. He hasn't been in on a major innovation since his invention of the internet, and I believe he's quite handy. Much better sense of humor than he generally gets credit for, by the way :)
gsmith
"Bated breath" does not even begin to describe how I'm waiting for this project to turn out! Go Huw!
terry_rory
What about all the swarf you left lying around? That could get everywhere. Perhaps next time an assistant (the wife?) could hold a narrow vacuum nozzle near the blade, whilst you are sawing, to ensure there are no fine metal particles to get in the rangefinder optics or wherever. andyaitken
I think a couple of bits of stray metal shaving in the viewfinder will be the least of Huw's problems on this project ;-) I'm guessing Huw's M2aD is going to be quite a bit lighter than a "factory" M2... frederick_muller
Yeah baby. Ever see the chainsaw scene in Scarface? Go Huw.
kai_griffin
Huw: place a listing in Ebay for "Genuine Leica M3 Metal Shavings", and I bet you'll get a nice price, going by the prices people will pay for an empty cardboard box.
