john_jovic
I might be imagining it, but I think my 70-200 IS is performing a bit worse than it used to. I think it's not as sharp, particularly wide open, as it used to be. Has anyone had a lenses performance change over time and is this something that Canon can repair or recalibrate. It's not a focus issue because I've noticed it on a couple of different bodies. TIAJJ
beauh44
Hi John, I've had mine since they were first introduced - what? - about 4 years ago maybe? Anyway, it's still fine. I'd send it off to Canon for a CLA. Good luck!
rog21
Before you spend the time and money to send it off, make sure it's not something obvious like dirty front or rear elements or a degraded filter....
will_perlis
"Has anyone had a lenses performance change over time..." Yeah. I've gotten progressively more far-sighted, and had to do some tuning of the diopter settings on the cameras. That's worth checking if you use manual focus. The number of OOF shots has dropped greatly now that the focussing screens are sharp. I can also far more easily tell when the AF has locked on to something other than what I wanted it to find. IMX, the 70-200 IS is aging far more gracefully than I am.
