jared_b.
I have a question that I hope gets tons and tons of responces ! Here goes: When lighting outdoors for portraits, like senior portraits, kidss, or families, What light source do you use? Reflectors seem to blind the subject/s. I bounce my flash off a sheet somtimes. That works pretty well actually sometimes. What I would LOVE is to take my softboxes actually out, but is there anyway of powering them on the beach, or in the middle of a field, besides a blarring generator ?!?! One more quetion (please). If I do bounce my flash, or find a way to use my softboxes, I sometimes get the "doubled-image" or blurry from the ambient light, and flash doubling up. How can I prevent this ? Anyhelp is appreciated ! Thanks ! Jared
stephen hazelton
Seems like the wedding photogs that I see at the arboretum are using fill flash and in some cases reflectors. With softboxes, would wind be a problem? To avoid the doubled-image, you'd need to prevent movement in the model/camera, and/or limit ambient exposure by faster shutter speed, smaller aperture, with more flash power as req'd. stephen_kruft
Reflectors don't need to be blinding if you have a way to get them in the right position. They are available in less reflective shades to use in bright light.
steve_l
Hi Jared, Lumedyne is great battery powered lighting that you could put a softbox on, but I agree with one of the other responses that wind will be a problem unless you have somebody is holding your light stands from falling over. Also, if you are using a slower shutter speed to pick up ambient light, make sure you have a tripod.
christopher broadbent
Get a used cine reflector and stand. the weigh a ton but don't blow over. Recover with matte foil.
