roger_kallet
I have many Canon FD lenses which I would like to us on a DSLR body. The two bodies I have in mind are the Olympus E300 or E500. I shoot digitally with a Canon 10D and I know that you can't use the FD lenses with it. Does anyone know of a quality-made adapter that can be used to mount and use FD lenses on the afore mentioned Olympus bodies. I realize that the automatic funtions aren't transferable. I only want to use the basic lens-functions,i.e., manual focus and aperature. Thank you for any help. Roger
godfrey
One of the most important factors is lens mount register: see <a href="http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/mounts.htm" target=new> http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/mounts.htm</a> for details. <br><br> Canon FD mount has a register distance of 42mm, Olympus 4/3 System mount has a register of 38.46mm. This means that an adapter could be built to fit an FD lens and provide infinity focus. <br><br> I haven't seen one produced yet, but it's only a matter of time .. presuming that there are no other physical constraints limiting the fitment of Canon FD lenses. There are a number of other adapters already in production:<br> <a href="http://www.cameraquest.com/adapt_olyE1.htm" target=new2> http://www.cameraquest.com/adapt_olyE1.htm</a> <br><br> Godfrey
walter_beck
I have been looking for such an adapter since I bought the Olympus E-1 last year and have had no luck. For some reason, there does not seem to be a need out there to drive the production of one. If anyone knows of one or knows of a craftsman willing to take on such a task, please let me know. roger_kallet
Godfrey and Walter, Thank you very much for your posts. I don't have either of the Olympus bodies, but the local Sam's club has the E300 with an Olympus lens for $599US and the E500 with two Olympus lenses for $792US plus some change. Before I bought the Canon 10D, I started digital with an Olympus 5050, a really nice camera--sorry I sold it. I wanted the Canon 10D because it was a DSLR and I had an EOS lens from three previous owned Canon Rebels. It seems with the vast number of photographers who shot with the FD lenses before going to the EOS system, there would be an adapter to mate with the Olympus E-series DSLRs. Additionally, if you look on Ebay, most of these lenses are going for a song. I may just buy the E300 at Sam's, use it as a second camera and wait, hopefully, for an early arrival of said adapter. jtk
Not only is there no apparent interest in FD adapters (wish there was because I have a bunch), there's evidently no interest in Olympus...sales are in the dumper. I hope they stay in the game, but Minolta left and Olympus has been rumored...
GerrySiegel
I would use my FD 200 3.8 for sure. What is possible can be you say, I thought that the mount to FP distance was not compatible, learn something every day. And if it is possible, some China manufacturer will make one.I hope. Put me down for one.
