looking at cheap lighting for all kinds of pics in my house? any

light bulds i can buy at a hardware store?

There are many other (better, safer, more flexible) lighting choices, but if you are going for cheap, you can't beat hardware store clamp-on aluminum reflectors with regular 150W household bulbs.

 

Note that these will emit a very yellow/orange colored light compared to daylight. If you are shooting digital, you should be able to remove most of the color cast if desired.

 

Please be cautious: these lights and reflectors get very hot. Don't burn the place down.

You can get 1000W of halogen lighting from Home Depot for about $30 "Shop lights" or "Work lights".

 

You'll need to bounce it since the beams aren't very uniform, but it doesn't get any brighter or cheaper.

 

As an added bonus during winter months, it keeps the room warm.

Make sure you use a heavy duty extension cord with any 1,000W bulb!

Ceramic clamp on work lights with bright bulbs. Flicker free florecent screw in bulbs for still life when you dont want heat. ie food photography

It depends on what you want and how cheap, but if you want flash, many people use two or three old flashes, with a slave trigger, or buy used equipment. I think I found my first little studio strobes used for well under $100, though you have to look around a lot.
