rebecca_k__uk_
Ello, I have a pentax super Me which looks to be in good condition, however my boyfriend 'looked after' it over christmas and while changing lenses he noticed that the mirror was dirty so decided to give it a clean, bless him. The camera worked brilliantly before the cleaning but now when I look through the viewfinder I can see greasy smudges over the field of vision. When looking in side I can see that the seal around the lense fitting looks more delicate than before and the smudges are visible on the now brilliantly shiny mirror screen. Does anyone know if these smudges can be removed and repaired? He offered to clean them off for me but having read several times that the mirror should never be touched I'm reluctant to let him near it again. :o) For info I have another super ME body that wont wind on that could be used as a donor if necessary! jeffpolaski
I have an ME Super that was forced by an ill-trained nephew (shame on me), and stopped winding. I contacted a person "selling" CLAs on eBay and he said that it might be a simple fix. $60US later, I had a very good ME. This might be easier than replacing a mirror, as optical alignment is an issue. In either case, one ME Super body can be a donor to the other. BTW, my niece is now using the ME Super, with much better results than I get on any of my cameras.

Thanks Jeff - That's the real downer, I'm only learning and I love the pictures I take with it!
chris_hutchins
Try a cotton bud dipped in meths - that's pretty effective for removing grease and other gunge and doesn't leave a residue. Chris
Sandeha Lynch
The ME is an old one and the sticky stuff is probably sealant sponge that needs replacing. Contact Robin at http://www.harrowtechnical.co.uk/ as he does a good CLA at a good price. He did my MX and it's now good for another half century. jeffpolaski
The fellow who repaired and CLAed my ME Super a couple of years ago and did a very good job for a very reasonable price was Klause Garcia, 543 Oxford Street, #2, Chula Vista, CA 91911, 619-425-8970. I just found the receipt.
