SB-800 with Sb-26 as slave flash

Hi All,

I am in LA from the UK this weekend and am thinking about a buying a

flashgun (either Sb-600 or Sb-800) for my D2h.

I have a few questions:

Can the SB-800 and older Sb-26 (which i still have from my F5) work

well together with the sb-26 as a slave firing into a brolly box?

Does the same answer apply to the SB-600 which is much cheaper?

Where's a good place to buy in LA, I can only really shop this

saturday and pretty centrally as I am using public transport.

Oh, and i'll be using the setup mainly for portaits and still life.

thanks

Mark

The SB-26 (as a slave) will only give you a burst of light. Your digital camera uses a pre-flash to determine exposure: the pre-flash will set off the SB-26 *before* you want it to. This is my guess. If you want a set-up for digital, you probably need the SB-800 x 2 to make your digital set up work as designed.

If you can manage with only 'M' mode and bounce the SB-28 into a umbrella, the set-up should work.

The SB800 can control a number of SB800s or SB600s. An SB600 cannot control other units. I would recommend buying the 800 and saving up for another unit so that you get the benefit of the Creative Lighting System i.e. full control of remote units. You can control them individually or in groups.

The second hand price of an SB26 appears to be about ?100 - which will not go far towards an SB800.
